Here are some of the principles taught by Dr. Nathaniel H. Bronner, Sr. to his six sons:
- 3 things his parents told him: Work hard, Be Honest, and Keep Good Company.
- Success occurs when preparation meets opportunity.
- A family that prays and plays together stays together.
- Early to bed, early to rise makes one healthy, wealthy, and wise.
- Reading makes a full man, speaking makes a ready man, writing makes an exact man.
- You only get one body and a man will give all his money to regain his health, so preserve your health.
- You need a minimum of three days to rest
- The bigger the dog, the more fleas it has.
- “Son, with all of the things that you do, learn to grab peace and rest whenever you can,never stand up if you can sit down and never sit down if you can lay down.”
- My people are destroyed for the lack of knowledge. Hosea 4:6
- Whenever you outgo exceeds your income, then your upkeep will become your downfall.
- Your judgment is no better than your information.
- Even a fool can put his hat on better than a wise man can for him.
- Wonder what Roosevelt is going to do? (My father used this as an illustration that so many people sat on the porch instead of getting off the porch into life).
- Some folk ain’t got much sense sober, ain’t got none drunk.
- The cleanup is more important than the buildup.
- It’s harder to stay in business than to go in business.
- Getting together is progress, working together is success.
- There is no success that can compensate for failure at home.
- After you get your diploma, take it and throw it in the garbage can, roll up your sleeves, and go to work.
- The nerve that runs to the pocketbook is very sensitive.
- You can’t borrow your way out of debt.
- I don’t want to just give people a job, but to teach them how to live.
- It’s a ‘po’ dog that won’t wag his own tail.”
